Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta, is best known for its breathtaking river valley and various art and music festivals.  This prairie city is located near the centre of the province, in western Canada. As a large capital city it provides big city facilities without the overcapacity and high living costs.  The Edmonton metropolitan area is the sixth largest in the country with a population of over 937,000 people.  There is a skilled workforce and excellent quality of life and you’ll see why Edmonton is one of the best places to live in all of Canada.  If you want to live in an open space, under a big sky, the Edmonton region is perfect for you.  Surrounding areas consist of rich, rolling farmland, lakes and wetlands.

There is always a wide variety of activities to do and enjoy at any time of the year; Edmonton is known as Canada's Festival City. It is home to over 30 festivals annually that celebrate music, food, culture, sports, theatre and much more.  During the winter months, you can enjoy world class museums and galleries, or dine at one of the 1,600 restaurants around the city.  The summer months are perfect weather to enjoy the outdoors and see numerous sites throughout the area. Edmonton is the home of the world's largest shopping and entertainment centre, the West Edmonton Mall.

Edmonton is known for its post secondary enrollment numbers, with forty six percent of the Greater Edmonton residents earning a post secondary degree, diploma or certificate. With over 33,000 part time and full time students, Edmonton is home to one of Canada’s leading universities, the University of Alberta.  Also, courses are available from many other education institutes such as, Athabasca University and the University of Lethbridge.

Edmonton consistently offers some of the most affordable housing of any city its size in Canada.  There is something to offer to everyone.  If you are looking for an urban lifestyle there are plenty of high and low rise apartments, lofts, and row houses, that can be within walking distance to the city centre.  If suburban is what you are looking for there is no shortage of neighbourhoods, with a small town feeling.  And if it is the rural atmosphere you are looking to find, there are plenty of acreages that can be found within an hours drive of the city.   Edmonton is a city that can accommodate any type of housing need, no matter what it is that you are looking to find.

Statistics on Edmonton and other cities across Canada are available here. These statistics are taken from the most recent Canadian census.
